There’s never been a more important time to help make sure your body is working at its best as when trying to conceive and during pregnancy. We all need to consume essential fatty acids, but research has shown that particular omega-3 essential fatty acids, such as DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are crucial during pregnancy as they are required for the normal development of the eye and brain of the foetus. Maintaining adequate amounts of omega-3 fatty acids during the last trimester and during breastfeeding is particularly important as this when the brain’s growth is most rapid.
The nutritional demands on a pregnant woman have led the government to recommend that all pregnant and nursing women consume an additional 200mg DHA per day on top of the 250g DHA per day already recommended for all adults.
While this dietary intake is achievable for many women, for those who are unable or unwilling to gain enough essential fatty acids from their diet, EQUAZEN mumomega is specifically formulated to be taken before, during and after pregnancy.
As with all our products, EQUAZEN mumomega contains naturally sourced high-grade marine and botanical oils to deliver the key omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, which have been concentrated and then reassembled in to triglycerides for optimal absorption and effectiveness.
In terms of intake, we recommend that pregnant and lactating women take at least 300 mg of DHA a day. We also suggest infants take at least 100 mg of DHA a day in their diet. Where this is not possible, we have developed EQUAZEN baby from the age of 6 months.
EQUAZEN mumomega contains the following essential acids
- Omega-3 Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) from fish oil is particularly important in laying down the structure of the eyes and brain in early life and for providing ongoing repair. Particularly important during the third trimester of pregnancy and during the first two years of life, when the brain develops most rapidly
- Omega-3 Ecosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) from fish oil plays more of a functional role, being crucial for moment-to-moment brain cell signaling
- Omega-6 Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) from evening primrose oil and its metabolite Arachidonic Acid (AA), also plays a structural role, assisting in normal nerve function, especially learning and memory
